Digg your favorite stories in Upcoming or check out the most popular ones in the Apple topic.
- punaninja, on 09/07/2008, -95/+644Or simply put a limit on how many articles you can digg per day. I read maybe 10-15 articles in a day, digging maybe half. We rarely need to digg 20+articles a day.
MrBabyman, you should at least put a comment on this subject and explain.- srujanlive, on 09/07/2008, -21/+113Rather, I would like a system where you actually have to click through the submission before digging. and maybe a time limit after you have clicked through to make sure you actually read/saw the submitted page.
- juneof44, on 09/08/2008, -2/+97Digg isn't the first place for users see these stories/images/videos. If I saw and liked something from, say, BoingBoing first, I might digg it when I see it posted here without visiting the linked article again.
It's also possible that their algo weights clicks on the Digg buttons embedded in articles differently. - mooboy322, on 09/08/2008, -13/+6why, there's no point in that
- Sraza, on 09/08/2008, -5/+31Half of the time I digg stories to check them out later. I go back and undigg if they suck.
I think there should be limits though. Maybe 100 articles a day, I know it's a bit high but there should be a limit. - RizRad247, on 09/08/2008, -11/+1I think the limit shoud be about 80-200 articles. That's what I think.
- hasansexy, on 09/08/2008, -1/+7http://img174.imageshack.us/my.php?image=82diggs3m ...
82 diggs in 3 minutes? rougly 1 digg per 2 seconds, That's not even ***** possible without some kind of script. - musicbear, on 09/08/2008, -0/+2If your friends with this kind of digger it also screws up what you see in your profile because EVERYTHING is dugg by them. You get tons of stuff listed as having been dugg by them, but you know there is no way they've read it all so you aren't sure which article they are actually recommending with their digg because they've dugg every story.
- aenima987, on 09/08/2008, -0/+2If it was an image then it should not have a timer. Sometimes you can see the image through the thumbnail.

- seppuko, on 09/08/2008, -6/+31I don't really understand why punaninja got dugg down here. Can anyone explain?
- MackenzieArbour, on 09/08/2008, -3/+51Maybe because his name is punaninja.
- MicrosoftBob, on 09/08/2008, -5/+31Bury Brigade?
- DocHoliday22, on 09/08/2008, -3/+18Nobody wants to be limited to what they can do on Digg and certainly not told how many articles they can Digg or Bury per day. The fault is with the way Digg is implemented and monitored, not with the rest of us who just want to read some news here and there....
- Stormwern, on 09/08/2008, -2/+10If you put a limit on diggs the people who browse upcoming stories will stop doing that and the top submitters will get 100% of front page stories. Can someone atleast explain what he is supposed to be gaining from digging other people's stories really fast??
- loquax, on 09/08/2008, -8/+2How about instigating a reader quiz before people can comment on a topic?
- Porkinsred6, on 09/08/2008, -1/+4@stormwern
the more stories he diggs, the more stories other people see. did you ever think of how many people use him as a filter for their news? so they dont have to look for themselves?
- QuadZeroRoute, on 09/08/2008, -11/+100If you ban him I am nearly 100% certain that he is just going to come back with ten accounts to keep from getting banned but to accommodate his interests. In fact there is no way to prove that MrBabyMan does not have ten accounts in the top twenty accounts on Digg at this very moment.
- bluezinc, on 09/08/2008, -12/+24Wow, QuadZero posted a quote that wasn't obviously troll-like.
Good job Quad! Keep it up! - Wartyboskfapped, on 09/08/2008, -5/+56QuadZero posted a quote that wasn't obviously troll-like because he's talking about something he knows all about: having multiple accounts to game the system.

- adrenalmedulla9, on 09/26/2008, -0/+1I got banned for having a second account on Digg. Supposedly having more than one account is against the rules.

A large consensus wanted him gone.
He blew it off. - Inquisition, on 09/08/2008, -0/+19Until Digg announces that they are changing the algorithm. Then he'll get together with the rest of his system-gaming buddies and cry about how they are special. They will then threaten to boycott, we'll all say "Great!" and when they see that everyone is getting along just fine without them, they will quietly slink back in and figure out how to game the new algorithm.
Wait! That already happened. - dystra, on 09/08/2008, -0/+7
82 diggs every 3 minutes, i dont think he has the time.....
- amoirae, on 09/08/2008, -0/+26After he created a thread to ask if the users wanted him to leave.
- pilot3033, on 09/08/2008, -38/+26I consistently digg more than 20 article per day, your idea is stupid.
I'm sorry you all have some sort of childish "no fair" thing going on with a digg user, but drop it will ya? You guys are ***** pathetic.- NCSD, on 09/08/2008, -0/+2tool
- Sean23, on 09/08/2008, -1/+17I concur. Limiting the number of articles a person could digg would dramatically change the dynamics of the site. Depending on what that limit is I guess. Low enough and it would make each digg worth more and make the user think more about what they digg. Would this lead to better content making the front page? I'm not sure.
- Spuy767, on 09/08/2008, -1/+5@intmonkey: Given Digg's new overly bloated javascript, it would be physically impossible to digg 82 articles in 3 minutes even if you just clicked random articles and started digging. This has to be multiple people on multiple machines, or a script running to digg articles.
- stix213, on 09/08/2008, -5/+167MrBabyMan is a perl script
- praisethelard, on 09/08/2008, -1/+61MrBabyMan is SkyNet.
- AaronZuffa, on 09/08/2008, -14/+5MrBabyMan is legion.
MrBabyMan does not forget. - JoeF8577, on 09/08/2008, -12/+14I, for one, welcome our overlord mrbabymantits
- willgonz, on 09/08/2008, -3/+28MrBabyMan has a cult following. He has 300+ friends who digg everything he submits. So if you have 300+ friends on digg and told them all to digg everything you put on digg, then you would have front page news all the time too.
- lintmonkey, on 09/08/2008, -7/+20Seriously. As long as he's digging each story by hand, there's nothing digg can or *should* do about it. If you want digg to amend their Terms of Use, requiring you to read every story before you digg it, you'll get a lot more people banned than just MrBabyMan.
- cjshamrock, on 09/08/2008, -11/+4Hey MrBabyMan once beat Chuck Norris.
LEAVE MRBABYMAN ALONE!! - thelizardreborn, on 09/08/2008, -0/+2@lintmonkey - If MrBabyMan really is a perl script, then it isn't by hand.
Unfortunately, the only way to "prove" he is a script instead of one person digging by hand is by claiming that it is impossible to digg as many stories per minute as he does. - musicbear, on 09/08/2008, -0/+1They could amend things by limiting the number of diggs but a better idea would be that if you have a block of folk that are all linked as friends and all digg the same stories, as noted here in the case of Mr. BabyMan, then the algorithm should make their 300 diggs = ONE digg once they have ALL dugg the story. That would make it fair and it would eliminate these diggers who game the system for some financial gain... (and if it's not financial gain... well... kill yourself loser... or at least get out of the house for a while.)
- Cl1mh4224rd, on 09/08/2008, -0/+6> "If you want digg to amend their Terms of Use, requiring you to read every story before you digg it, you'll get a lot more people banned than just MrBabyMan."
I'm not seeing the problem here...
- NikoKun, on 09/08/2008, -25/+14What the hell is wrong with you people? We should ban the heavy users? Are you insane?
And no limits on diggs either... that would destroy digg... somedays I want to digg 20+ stories that are good... other days I hardly digg any at all...
Say no to limits!- DiggzDE, on 09/08/2008, -3/+39People digging 83 articles in 3 minutes is what ruins the entire concept of Digg.com. This is a social information base site. What is brought to the general readers attention shouldn't be just what popular users digg without reading. It should be interesting, informative stuff that people have read and decided was worthy.
Honestly, I think the entire "Shout" concept should be dropped from Digg. I have limited friends but everyone one who sends me a shout is simply looking for a digg. Half of them tell me I should digg simply because I am their friend.
MrBabyMan is exactly what is wrong with Digg now. - neonoodle, on 09/08/2008, -3/+14Yes, we should ban heavy users who are obviously not reading the content, but for some reason find it worthy enough to digg up to the front page for other people to read. MrBabyMan obviously has an agenda, and him gaming the system isn't good for the rest of the users.

- Rikkochet, on 09/08/2008, -6/+83Or, see if we can't just police it ourselves.
We all know the top 5 diggers that seem to submit every ***** thing that makes front page.
For the next week as an experiment, I'm burying every single one of them. Let's get a few people doing this and see if it helps.- twiztidsinz, on 09/08/2008, -7/+19That's just as bad as the people who blindly digg every article by someone.
- Phisolo, on 09/08/2008, -1/+4The "gamers" have a profit motive and dedicate much more time, resources, and scripts to gaming digg. As "normal" users, we have no way to police the gamers, they have too many resources. We could bury all day long, but without the friend network and scripts, it would be of no avail.
I come here to read news and digg what I find interesting. Limiting diggs would make them much more valuable. I think that would be better. Scarcity makes markets more efficient.
- JEWestbrookJR, on 09/08/2008, -10/+59The worst part is that he actually has a family... which he obviously must ignore to fulfill his retarded obsession with corrupting digg.
- JoeF8577, on 09/08/2008, -2/+16actually thats not funny :'(
- MacSuxWindozSux, on 09/08/2008, -1/+18Seeing as how its obviously a script, he's probably rarely ever home Digging, instead constantly out with his family and receiving checks in the mail.
- AzureRise, on 09/08/2008, -1/+9Sux, you obviously haven't seen the documentary showing MrBabyMan is indeed neglecting his family for digg.
- TSCheredar, on 09/08/2008, -6/+3Below the belt man. Way below the belt.
- iPhrankie, on 09/08/2008, -0/+2Or is this is how he makes his living?
I don't pay attention to what he submits but could any of it be 'paid for front page' type stuff?
- kirkis, on 09/08/2008, -4/+10http://digg.com/people/MrBabyMan_Willing_to_Answer ...
- SoCalMario, on 09/08/2008, -2/+25Dude simple,
We, the people that don't like what is happening out number his friends that help him digg stories right? Let's just all burry his stories! That should even out the playing field AND help the little people promote their stories! I mean we already know the Digging that is going on with MrBabyMan is just a Digg me and I'll Digg you where on one reads his submissions.- JDoorjam, on 09/08/2008, -1/+10Why don't we simply block MrBabyMan? Does blocking someone block their article submissions? If so, we can simply choose as a community to reject this gaming of the system.
- dazparkour, on 09/09/2008, -0/+1It doesn't as far as I know. Shame.
- Shaggy3, on 09/08/2008, -19/+23You either die a hero or you live long enough to become the villain.
- forevernomad, on 09/08/2008, -3/+4Who so serious?
See! It just doesn't work when you ***** it up.
- forevernomad, on 09/08/2008, -3/+4Who so serious?
- diemunkiesdie, on 09/08/2008, -1/+7Maybe there should be a limit on diggs per minute, not on how many you can do in a whole day. I can easily digg 50 articles in a day (and I read a good 80 or 90).
In any case, digging too many articles reduces the "power" of your digg making it count less to get something on the front page. The digg algorithm is engineered to make it so that people who digg more than average are not getting an equal vote, which works out to stop people like MrBabyMan from really contributing to getting an article on the front page. - vincentmndz, on 09/08/2008, -2/+7I will LOL big time if he diggs one of these stories about himself!
- AzureRise, on 09/08/2008, -0/+11He'll probably do it without reading it.
- granolajoe, on 09/08/2008, -10/+8So because that's your behavior on Digg, everyone else should be limited to the same? How about ***** YOU.
I want to Digg the way that I want to, and read as many articles, or watch as many videos as I want to.
I'm not a fan of MrBabyMan, but I don't need to be limited just because you are butt-hurt over other users' Digging behavior. - scott28w, on 09/08/2008, -2/+13He's doing a live show right now: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/the-drill-down
- quomen, on 09/08/2008, -1/+20It's been a while, but I think Digg is ripe for a new revolt.
- rlb5118, on 09/08/2008, -3/+8I have to say I agree with most of you that I do get tired Mr.BabyMan always being on the front page, but at the same time I have read many interesting articles submitted by him. If he was banned maybe those stories would still reach the front page, but maybe not.
- bratterscain, on 09/08/2008, -1/+4And how many are good that he submits? If a monkey submits enough articles and has enough friends, I'd say even he would eventually start front paging easily.
- rlb5118, on 09/08/2008, -0/+1Good point
- geneusutwerk, on 09/08/2008, -3/+51 digg every 30 seconds. Would limit scripts while not changing much out. If there is less than 30 seconds between your diggs then you are not reading the articles.
- diemunkiesdie, on 09/08/2008, -2/+4Unless you read a few at once and are now digging up the ones you like. I routinely click on four or five links that look interesting, peruse all of them, then come back and digg up the ones I liked. In those situations I have multiple diggs in just a few seconds!
- JDoorjam, on 09/08/2008, -0/+10Or just multiply it upwards: 20 diggs every 10 minutes. That way, even in diemunkiesdie's scenario, you still have plenty of diggs to come and promote the articles you like.
- kgreen69er, on 09/08/2008, -12/+30Who gives a ***** how many diggs this guy dolls out. It makes no sense to me. I only digg stories that I like and comment occasionally like a forum. The fact that two stories about this guy are on the top stories of the day is ludicrous. This isn't funny, interesting, or newsworthy. It's a bunch of nerds complaing about who is more popular on the internet. Now that that's said, I need a jagerbomb cause I got tons of skanks to grind on.
- firrebutt, on 09/08/2008, -9/+13jesus christ. calm down. its not a big deal. its like high school all over again. is it really that big of a competition? A lot of critics say he has no life.. but to get heated over something like this...
- charm803, on 09/08/2008, -1/+8Can't you just block someone? And bury their articles?
- StevenBullen, on 09/08/2008, -11/+1DIGG: http://digg.com/world_news/Ban_MrBabyMan_please
- fr0mundacheese, on 09/08/2008, -3/+3I buried your comment and your repost.
- sockpuppets, on 09/08/2008, -4/+4I wish Kevin and the PTB would grow a pair and address this.
- ciaran036, on 09/08/2008, -3/+120 would not be enough. Not every Digg is an "article". Pictures take seconds to view. And many videos are less than 30 seconds long.
- Spuy767, on 09/08/2008, -0/+1Given that digg's new bloated javascript often takes longer than 2 seconds to even load a clickable page, it's physically impossible to digg 82 articles in 3 minutes.
- tandy400, on 09/08/2008, -3/+7I've said it once and I'll say it again... why should I give a ***** what *someone else* is doing on digg?
- Koookie, on 09/10/2008, -1/+1I don't know why you should, but obviously you do, since you wrote that comment here.
- Slayercio, on 09/08/2008, -2/+0the server will have to store the diggs per day check before making valid the digg and increase the number, digging would become slower
- Cl1mh4224rd, on 09/08/2008, -0/+1> "the server will have to store the diggs per day check before making valid the digg and increase the number, digging would become slower"
Not significantly. It'd be one extra database query to grab the number of diggs by UserX from 00:00:00 to 23:59:59 and then an extra if() statement.
Basically.
- Cl1mh4224rd, on 09/08/2008, -0/+1> "the server will have to store the diggs per day check before making valid the digg and increase the number, digging would become slower"
- Gutterpunk, on 09/08/2008, -4/+1This sounds like retaliation for the article about that Digger who sells a 30% front page rate for 1200$...
- jeremyduffy, on 09/08/2008, -0/+2Such simple and effective advice (limiting the number of diggs you can have in one day) there's no chance anyone will actually listen.
And as of today with 600+ comments, none are MrBabyMan. I wonder if he didn't see this. Though how can that be since HE SEES ALL - todfather, on 09/08/2008, -0/+2Or make the first thing you digg have more weight than the last thing you digg, the more you digg the less it's worth.
- OwdenBowden, on 09/08/2008, -1/+1It is obvious that MrBabyMan is non other that Albertpacino who is non other than Dan Huard a.k.a. Kevin Roses Bi-tch.
So the inside man is in on the fix. It is like trying to fight city hall. - EndouOuto, on 09/08/2008, -2/+1So what if you read 10-15 a day puna, I read more
and I don't need people like you telling me how much
I need to read or digg. Mind your own business. - shadus, on 09/08/2008, -3/+1I would entirely disagree with 10-15 a day. There are days I read 200-300 hundred and digg maybe 75-100.
- themastersb, on 09/08/2008, -0/+2I digg around 1 article a week because that's all that I usually see that ever deserves to be dugg.

- Druid72, on 09/09/2008, -0/+1MrBabyMan can't respond he is busy "doing stuff".
- LesPaul75, on 09/11/2008, -0/+1THERE IS NO MrBabyMan. It's just the account that the Digg moderators use to push stories through the system. If that account gets banned, they'll just create others and be more careful about getting caught next time.
NEWSFLASH: Digg is a business that wants to make money and they need good stories to propagate to the front page quickly. But they also want it to appear as though regular, average Joes like you and I are responsible for all the content on the site. Solution? Create moderator accounts that get priority over everyone else, but appear to be just regular users. Voila -- MrBabyMan! - worldnick, on 09/14/2008, -0/+1You get points for conspiracy theory, but alas I think he is the fat guy here:

- srujanlive, on 09/07/2008, -21/+113Rather, I would like a system where you actually have to click through the submission before digging. and maybe a time limit after you have clicked through to make sure you actually read/saw the submitted page.

If you aren't gaming the system you can't get your articles on the front page anymore.
Any regular Joe user should be able to slide down these tubes and post an article and have a fair shot of having it front paged. Instead if you post an article you will get ~2 diggs if you are lucky.
Try it, create a brand new account and post, you will see it won't go anywhere.
All this drama with MrBabyMan needs to stop, he isn't the only one and if it wasn't him it would be someone else. The problem is with the system itself.- RobotBuddha, on 09/08/2008, -0/+6I think the digg extensions for firefox are the big helper there. It's a lot easier to just see that a story you're reading has a couple diggs and add your own on. I've gotten one story popular out of about 80 submissions and I never use the social networking aspects of the site. It's possible, it just doesn't happen all that often.
I will say that it's rare enough that I just don't bother anymore. I'm sure a lot of other people feel that way, and I'm not sure if it really matters. As you say, it's the nature of digg. Not so much the people gaming the system, but the system itself.

- ghostie, on 09/08/2008, -0/+6@Dejital: Everyone is trying to submit "cool and interesting" articles. It kind of ruins it for us all if only MrBabyMan's "cool and interesting" articles are the ones that make it to the front page.

- thatsmyaibo, on 09/08/2008, -3/+15At least mrbabyman is a decent guy. I follow msaleem on twitter and occasionally check out his blog, he is a pompous ass who thinks he knows everything. Again I offer a challenge, create a brand new account and post an article. It won't be front paged and it wont have more than a handful of diggs. That's the problem with Digg, not MrBabyMan.- Kyan, on 09/08/2008, -0/+7Actually, it's the problem with Digg users. The algorithm used to give a boost to people who didn't game the system and you could make the front page. But you would hit the front page with maybe 80-90 Diggs and the morons on the front page would say "WTF? 80 Diggs and on the front page???!!!!" And then proceed to bury the article. So, it's a two-way street, people.
Also, didn't BabyMan swear he was quitting a few months go? I guess the promotion money is too good. - sprooj, on 09/08/2008, -0/+7He's just like every other attention whore, or in this case digg whore, he said he was leaving, made a big fuss, and got some attention.

- mllawso, on 09/08/2008, -1/+15It's a conspiracy man! "MrBabyMan" is a digg construct; created by kevin rose to generate income by allowing sites to pay to be dugg!
- Goblin, on 09/08/2008, -0/+6You know, that's a great idea. I was always confused how Digg could make money from advertising when catering to a population where probably 90% of users have adbock.
- Neiby, on 09/08/2008, -2/+14He's not the only one. There are others who are pretty bad, too: MakiMaki, msaleem and SirPopper being three of the worst. MrBabyMan is their king, though. I think he's some sort of role model for the unemployed.

- FiP0, on 09/08/2008, -5/+2Corrupting ? Some of the stories he submitted became popular, so people did "digg" them, which means that he brings something to the website.

- Sephaa, on 09/08/2008, -2/+2Yea let's not have the system corrupt and also ban everyone that dugg his submissions too, since it's their fault as well...
The stupidity behind this astounds me, you can't blame 10 people for something that thousands take part in and then turn around and say ban them, it's mass hipocracy. - Lockhart, on 09/08/2008, -8/+3***** you, my Digg friends died trying to get MrBabyMan banned!

I actually defended MrBabyMan a few months ago when I thought he was just shouting all his "friends" to get submissions. I thought that system was wrong (still do), unhelpful to the diversity of Digg but in the end legal to Digg's TOS. This however is clearly cheating the system.
Seriously, Digg needs to get off their ass and take care of this. Remember when Digg changed their algorithm and MrBabyMan and other top users threatened to leave? Kevin and Jay called them and begged them to stay since they apparently Digg needs them. - marksmayo, on 09/07/2008, -68/+53Let's not go overboard and start banning people! Perhaps a simple timer would be enough - ignore any diggs by a user within say, 5-30 seconds of their last digg. No need to ban people, just implement it or impose it on those who digg more than 100 articles a day.

lol - Neiby, on 09/08/2008, -0/+3I think the max number of Diggs should be much lower, like 50. And maybe we should have a captcha system that kicks in at 20+ diggs. There should also be a maximum number of submissions per day. I would say three is a good number.

- borez, on 09/08/2008, -19/+702I must admit, I'm sick to death of the front page being invaded by just a few submitters when it's supposed to be a social news site.
But there's a very easy fix for this: Limit the amount of stories that can be submitted to say one an hour per user and implement in your algorithm a metric that looks at who is digging a submission, and if the same bunch of diggers keep appearing to have dugg the same peoples submissions before the vast majority get on board a story, then hold it from the front page.
I understand that it's a good thing for friends to Digg other Friends stories, but as it stands with these power users, it's not digging, it's ***** trolling, and it's not on.- winnestow, on 09/08/2008, -4/+11mrbabyman gets paid .01 for huff post diggs only .005 for non huff post diggs
- huff51, on 09/08/2008, -1/+19he gets paid for my diggs? i am really doing something wrong here!
- ErrorF002, on 09/08/2008, -1/+27I'm totally down with this. I would also like to add, throttle diggs. If you can only digg once per minute, this crap will slow down some. Even more evil would be to give people 20 (+/- any sane number) per day with no roll over diggs. This way you only digg stories you enjoyed, care about, or (heaven forbid) actually read.
Throttle Diggs! Give the power back to the readers! - QuadZeroRoute, on 09/08/2008, -7/+3Like I said above, if you ban him I am nearly 100% certain that he is just going to come back with ten accounts to keep from getting banned but to accommodate his interests.
- Halsfield, on 09/08/2008, -1/+2ip ban ? the kind of ban given to the bcuban guy that got banned the other day. he tried to come back with other accounts and they got his ip address, and his new accounts got banned also.
- drex8, on 09/08/2008, -4/+10Also, as lot of other Diggers have pointed out....Digg can Anonymize the submitter, until the article reaches the front page...
Make a limit, about how much of your own Digg Submits you can shout out to Digg Friends..
Make *Technology* the front page of Digg. I know one can do it using settings in their profile, but Digg was built on Tech Artciles. And now those tech related articles are almost getting fewer and fewer in numbers. After *Technology* should come *All*.
Digg has started this *Upcoming Recommendations* thingy, but I don't know how many Diggers are using it. And it's actually a nice, genuine and sincere effort by Digg, to prevent the gaming of the system. I have an alternative suggestion..
-- Add a random *Upcoming Recommendations* article for every 4 main page Digg article. And it would be random for all users, so not every Digger see the same article, or it might be based on the same algorithm Digg is using for *Upcoming Recommendations*. In that way more Diggers get familiarized with the *Upcoming* section. And there can also be the *Upcoming Recommendations* widget on the side, like its there now.- Cl1mh4224rd, on 09/08/2008, -0/+1> "Digg can Anonymize the submitter, until the article reaches the front page..."
Doesn't help when all anyone can do is send a shout to all their friends, saying, "Digg this article! I submitted it! [link]"
- Cl1mh4224rd, on 09/08/2008, -0/+1> "Digg can Anonymize the submitter, until the article reaches the front page..."
- SigmaEcho, on 09/08/2008, -2/+38I'm not a fan of MrBabyMan, but I'm not going to blame him. MrBabyMan is NOT the problem, he's a symptom of the REAL problem: the digg system ITSELF. Currently digg is set up to reward those who abuse, exploit, and game the system. When they started adding social networking features years ago, digg stopped being about merit and became a popularity contest. Those with the most friends and followers get the most diggs.
The solution is NOT to make the system or the algorithm more complex! The algorithm is already overly complex in an attempt to band-aid the underlying flaws in the system. No, the solution is to make the system SIMPLER. Have all newly submitted stories appear on the front page in a sidebar. They won't be there long, but all stories will get a decent amount of views and good stories will get dugg, bad stories will get buried. YTMND has used this system for years, and a complete nobody can have their site become a huge hit, just because they appeared on the front page for a moment. (I know from experience, this method works.) Why digg hasn't done this yet is beyond me. All the social networking features should be removed. They are counter-intuitive to the idea of stories being dugg up on merit. Making submissions anonymous (at least until they hit front page) would also help.
Right now, digg is trying to become a more credible news organization (Digg Dialogg) and failing, more and more stories are appearing reflecting user's frustrations with the system, and digg still can't find a buyer for their company. All of these problems could be solved immediately if they merely changed the system to be focused on and reward merit, instead of trying to be a social network.- satanguy, on 09/08/2008, -0/+3social networking is web 2.0 though!!

- satanguy, on 09/08/2008, -0/+3social networking is web 2.0 though!!
- skipgamer, on 09/08/2008, -1/+5They already tried that, and there was a revolt against that with mr baby man and other saying its not fair, and people were outraged at digg for being biased... I agree with SigmaEcho ^^ Thats the only real way to fix the problem.
- aeoo, on 09/08/2008, -0/+2It's a good way to fix it, but it's not the only real way by any means.
- ciaran036, on 09/08/2008, -1/+1One an hour is nowhere near enough.
- ChileanGoD, on 09/08/2008, -0/+4You nailed it. One story submission per hour, or maybe per half-hour. Digg should strongly considerate if they stand by their own values.
- Outdoor83, on 09/08/2008, -2/+1The folks at Digg are pretty smart and are paid good money to come up with a design for the Digg algorithm. I imagine that they have spent far more than the 2 minutes you all have spent here to come up with the current algorithm. I also imagine it's based on lots of experience, tried-and-failed ideas, lots of ideas in testbeds to see the results, etc.
I'm sure they welcome your input, but realistically, try to not fall into the trap of "It's easy! Do X!" when talking to people who have much, much more experience with the issue than you do. Odds are, it's not that simple or easy for reasons you don't understand.- borez, on 09/08/2008, -0/+6Of course, I'm no fool either, but something needs to happen, because the front page is full of the same submitters and there have been numerous occasions when I, or one of my friends on digg have submitted a story, watched it sink, then suddenly it's on the front page submitted by some power user.
- devzor, on 09/08/2008, -0/+2i agree with borez...
So crap when u submit something and it doesn't make the front page then 2 weeks later the same article makes it to the front page by a power user.

Go back to stumbleupon, reddit or what ever hell hole you guys crawled out of.- SoCalMario, on 09/08/2008, -0/+6This is not about being popular, this is about a group of people Digging each other to make the front page on purpose. Without even reading the article. When this happens, REAL quality submissions don't make the front page. This is NOT the way Digg was mean to be. This is like companies subbimiting a story and having the employees digg the stories. If it's a big company the submissions would reach the front page ALL the time.
- ciaran036, on 09/08/2008, -0/+1No no these limits are much too restrictive! The problem we can see here is that MBM and others are probably using scripts to digg other people's articles automatically. He's dugg hundreds of articles in 3 minutes - stop that from happening but nothing else!
- nihil, on 09/08/2008, -1/+2Given how often the Digg-libs get articles from huffingtonpost & dailykos et al on the front page, I don't see how the current algorithm is doing anything to keep multiple articles from the same site from getting on the front page.

BTW zachfitch, at this point there are 136 Diggs to this article. That would put you at a GRAND TOTAL OF 142 Diggs to date.
